Not sure how much to feed your dog? This free dog food calculator works out your dog’s daily calorie needs from their weight, life stage, activity level and weight goal. It then turns that number into grams, ounces, cups or cans for dry, wet or raw food. You also get a per-meal breakdown, a treat allowance and a mixed-feeding example, so every meal is easy to measure.
How to use:
- Enter your dog’s weight in kg or lb.
- Choose the life stage, then neutered status, activity level and weight goal for adult dogs.
- Pick the type of food, or enter the calories per kg from your food’s label.
- Click Calculate to see daily calories, food amounts and each meal.
FAQs:
Q: How much should I feed my dog each day?
A: It depends on weight, age and activity. A moderately active, neutered 15 kg (33 lb) adult dog needs roughly 850 calories a day, or about 220 g of kibble including a 10% treat allowance.
Q: How many times a day should I feed my dog?
A: Adult dogs usually eat twice a day. Puppies under 4 months do best with 4 small meals, and puppies aged 4 to 12 months with 3.
Q: Why does my dog need fewer calories after being neutered?
A: Neutered dogs often have a slower metabolism, so the calculator uses a lower calorie factor for them. Watch their weight and adjust if needed.
Q: Should treats count toward my dog’s daily food?
A: Yes. Vets suggest treats stay at 10% or less of daily calories, and the calculator subtracts them from the food amount.
