FAQs

  1. What is the difference between GST and VAT? Both are consumption taxes added to the price of goods and services. GST (Goods and Services Tax) is the name used in countries such as India, Australia, Canada and Singapore, while VAT (Value Added Tax) is used in the UK, EU, Pakistan, UAE and many others. The calculation is the same.
  2. How do I add GST/VAT to a price? Multiply the net price by the tax rate and add it: Gross = Net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, 1,000 at 18% becomes 1,180.
  3. How do I remove GST/VAT from a total? Divide the gross price by (1 + rate ÷ 100): Net = Gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, 1,180 at 18% has a net price of 1,000 and tax of 180.
  4. What are CGST and SGST? In India, for sales within the same state, GST is split equally between the Central (CGST) and State (SGST) governments. Each is half of the total GST rate.
  5. Are the preset rates always correct? Tax rates change and differ by product and country. The presets are common rates only, so always confirm the right rate with your tax authority or accountant. Use the Custom option for any other rate.
